These are in your price range and are a very sturdy reel I have a Tioga LA. Don't know about there new models though, mine are about 4 years old.

Lots of other good reels out there to look it.

Orvis Battenkill III Mid Arbor. I bought mine for 130ish new last year, it rocks. Baby Tarpon, steelhead, bonefish, trout, salmon, permit, it'll do it all. Great drag too...

You can find them on ebay for around 100 (+/-) bucks, with a spare spool.

See if you can run down one of the older 12/13 (think I've got the numbers right) Redingtons. If not, do take a look at the Teton's less expensive 'brothers' the Tioga.

You can pound nails with that guy.

I have a couple Tiogas. They are nice, but slightly rougher than the Orvis reels.

Anyone played with the Lamson Lightspeed? I am alos considering a british made Scierra. What a sweet reel. Had my hands on one at Cabelas. Love the palm drag dial. Cool feature, smooth reel!

Oh, and I have abandoned my $200 budget. I know you dont need to spend a lot for a nice reel, nor do you need a nice reel/rod to catch more fish. I've always gone cheaper and I find myself more appreciative for the high quality stuff when I handle it. Could this be the beginning of the end?

Check out the Orvis Battenkills they are in that price range and nice, also their Mach series nice but a little higher in price. Lots of good options out there.

Jake, if you are still in the Boise area, go by the Orvis store on Overland, just east of Cole Road. Look at the Battenkills before you buy anything else.

Just got back to Bend yesterday. Didn't know there was an Orvis store over there. Would have gone. I am sure the fly shops around here carry Orvis. I'll look into it. Thanks for all the good info and suggestions.

Don't get me wrong Fred, the Orvis reel is more precisely machined (IMO) and I have had problems with the Tioga reel handles. I now carry 4 spares and 2 extra screws in my vest.

I still fish them though. Have a mondo Tioga on my 2 hander.
