That "blue" is an adult! Up in Saskatchewan, they refer to 'em as "bald eagle" geese. We got several of them in our mixed bag, as well as Canadas, normal snows, and immature blues, but especially specklebellies (which are VERY delicious)!

sounds like fun Bob!! actually there are 3 blues in the photos. Two adults and a first year bird (the all dark one resting)

Are those the Fir Island Snows? I know I didn't see many blues mixed in with the snows when I went scouting.

yes at the time they were Fir Island birds but could now be Standwood, Marysville, Arlington, Oso, West Mt. Vernon, Edison, Abbotsford, Fraser birds

Yeah, blues are TYPICAL snows, and are a part of the family. They will be present in any brood, and are NOT a subspecies. The immature and younger birds are just not as spectacular in their appearance as the older ones.

Dude, I didnt say they were a sub-species, they are a blue "morph" of the snowgoose. You referenced in your first post "that blue is an adult" speaking singular, as if there was only one there..
Our west coast Wrangle Island birds rarely see the blue morphing!

Yes it seems if the birds have really altered their flight/eating patterns. I understand that most of the juvy birds are getting skinney from the lack of consistance good food source. Lots of hunting pressure is keeping on the move.
