Well I'm getting ready to build a 12wt for tarpon. One thought I have is the reel. This will be a rod that only gets use one time every few years and don't think I need to buy a $500 to $800 reel. The Pfueger Trion is hitting top pick as it is the only 12wt I can get my grubby hands on and play with. Got to love having family in south Florida. WFFF

I fish a Trion in a #8. Great reel for trout and steel, but I question its stopping power for a really fast, big fish. I had the 8 wt cranked down good for reds and they were still ripping line away at will.

For the $$$ I'd say the tioga's as well. Great reels for the price.
