think its a purple finch...yummy. a bunch fried up is as good as fresh roasted peanuts.

We get a lot of finches as well, house and gold. And lots of junkos. 'Cept now the hawks are also regular feeders at our place as well

I also have one Coopers and one Sharp Shinned hawk feeding from the frequent visitors to both my feeder and my neibors. He told me yesterday the sharpie chased the juncos around for 25 minutes before the stupid one bolted and he caught it mid air.

I guess that's the difference between country birds of prey and city birds of prey... at the office complex I work in there is a redtail hawk who frequents the trees and I often watch him as I finish my coffee before heading in. Monday morning I watched him as he scrounged around on the ground for worms and bugs among the bark mulch and leaves, ignoring one dumb squirrel about 60' away and on the pavement. Maybe he doesnt like squirrel? I thought to myself, but I would eat squirrel over a worm or bug.

And getting back to the finches- my Grammas place has purple too, in the Umpqua valley. I like the canaries best though.
