Does anybody know when the winter steelhead run normally begins on the Sandy river?

Depending on the river levels, things usually heat up by the third week in December and should be in full swing by the holidays. By the way the flow on the Sandy got up to 60,000 CFS on the 25th which is mind boggling because normal flow is between 3,000 and 4,000!

That is a lot of water. Sounds like plunking water to me :-)

I just fished the Sandy today (12/5) and the water was the nicest I've seen in a long time. Flow was around 3200 and ht was around 10.5 . Color was almost a translucent green. Drifted Oxbow to Dabney and had a couple of hits, but didn't get any on. Saw some fish on my fishfinder, but as Eric said, the run has not yet really begun. No other reports of any fish landed today. One apparently landed yesteday from the bank at Lewis and Clark and one at Oxbow. This water was premo for drifting though.
