I'm thinking about getting back into archery (haven't done it in 20 years almost) and need a new bow. My old bow I bought in a pawnshop in about 1990. I've been looking at a few, and I can't believe how much they've improved in 15-20 years. They're lighter, smaller, and have much more let-off. Wow.
Anyway, I'm looking at the Cabela's Pursuer XP - and a few others. Anybody have any advice?

Don't really think you can go wrong with most of the new bows out there..the usuals will come up, Mathews, Bowtech, Hoyt..etc...I have an older(5yrs) Hoyt Magnatec, haven't shot it a bunch but it works for me.

Yeah, I agree - Any of the new bows are slick - I got a new Bowtech from Sportsman's Warehouse -A far cry from an older Mathews. Smooth and fast. Now if I can get an animal to jump out, stand still, and wave a flag at me (Age sure makes one slow!!!) And Idaho has allowed the 85% let off now - SWEEEEET.

Liek everyone else said. The new bows are all good. I would stay away from the Hoyt's though. Those things are super heavy compared to what else is out there these days. I picked up an AR31 by Archery Research last year and have been pretty happy with it. Super quiet, super fast and light. This is tiny too. The limb to limb spread is nothing. Good for Washington hunting in all the thick stuff.
In any case you can count on spending anything from $400 on up. You can get less expensive bows too, but we all know the old saying. Let me know if you need broadheads too. I sell and build my own with my brothers and father. Good luck on the search and purchase.

Went down to Cabela's recently and shot several good bows. Think I like the Martin Cheetah best. There used to be an archery store in town here (Boise) called the Archer's Retreat? Anyway, seems like they disappeared. No coincedence, I suppose.
Now I just need to save a few bucks more and pick one up. Then shoot, shoot, shoot.

Shoot a Mathews before you make your final decision.

Well I shot several bows, and ended up with the Martin Cheetah. Suffice to say I like the way it shoots. After a couple months, I'm still happy with it.
Now I just need a rangefinder, bow case, more arrows, etc......
Thanks everybody for the advice.

Sweet I used to shoot Martins and was very happy with them. The Cheetah is a nice looking bow.

Having seen this zipper in person, all I can say is "It looks smoking fast". It weighs nothing, and Pez is killing his brand new carbon arrows already, so we know it's accurate. I think he's gonna have a fun fall...
