Anyone been out after bass yet? Its getting close! And with this weekends weather inching up around 60 degrees, you have a pretty good chance at catching some largmouth. I will be out at a local lake Sunday and Monday. Ill report back.
Shaun.

I got some pig smallies last weekend while jigging for perch in 50 feet of water, Light bite, just felt like I hooked a dirtclod. Heavy then slight headshakes. Biggest was 22 inches.

Thats a nice surprise while perch fishing! Hopefully this slight temp. rise will bring some that size into the shallows looking to eat!

Interesting Joe. Last time I was bank fishing by the dam I watched 3 guys in a bass boat work the deep water in the middle between the dam and Black Sands. Looked like they might have been jigging but I didn't see them catch anything. They were out there for quite a long time in the late afternoon. This was last month.

Shaun, the water temp is 36 degrees right now, and some of the lake still has ice on it. It'll be a whle before the water warms and the fish move shallow. Still fun fishing deep, but you have to take care of the fish. I use a shelton fish descender to get them back to depth fast.

Dean, they were probably practicing their drop shot techniques. You can catch bass now, but it is slow and the bite is really soft.

I stopped by one of my local puddles on Sunday and the water was 42 degrees and muddy from the high water. There were frogs jumping around so we are almost there. Lots of Commerants. Every time they landed, I would move over and chase them off.

So sunday Pez lost a toad while we were perch fishing. He also landed a 12' smallie. There are fish to be caught, even when the water is cold.

He sounded like the 12 foot smallie was pretty routine, imagine the size of the TOAD that got away.

That sucker was likely almost as big as the Sled-O-Matic.
No bass today, the water cooled to 34.5 degrees. We did pile up a large cooler full of crappie and big perch. Most perch were 9.5 to 12 inches. We returned any smaller than that using the SFD.
