Lets hear the opening day trout stories new
      #32279 - 04/28/01 09:29 AM

Had lots of new stuff to try out today. The new depth finder, vortex plug, used electric motor, magnetic light, 4wt fly rod built into a spinning rod, towing the boat for the first time with the new truck.

Left my house at 2:30 with no working trailer lights . Picked up Buxndux at little after 3 am for the big adventure on Lake Anderson. We arrived at the lake at around 4 am and missed the launch line up mess. The crowd was a little smaller this year than in years past. Not that is wasn't crowded...just not as bad. No waiting and in the boat went . Juch more fun sitting on the water looking at the line than being in it. Broke out the new magnetic light made by Coleman and attached it to my fish box and we had a lighted boat interior. Now out of my pocket I bring out "the secret weapon"....Vortex Plug!! We are early so I want to catch the first trout of the day in the dark. I put in the batteries and flash flash goes ole vortie. Put the seal plug in and turn the plug over and it goes dead. My new overpriced fishing plug only lights when it feels like it... I was determined to get it working before daylight......No such luck. If it wasn't so expensive it would have gone over board!!

I would like to thank bux for letting me catch the first one . (He had his secret lure on for a little while). The hot lure for us was a flatfish that actually wiggled (not tangled or spinning). We had the ten fish limit by 9 am. No monster trout today just a nice batch of planted rainbows. The other popular bait today was the power bait. Orange was the preferred color by the majority of fishermen.

Changed plans and went after warm water fishys instead. The rain stoped as we launched the boat, but that just seemed to piss off the wind gods. Stuck with it untill 11. Hooked 4 walleyes (2 keepers) 3 nice large mouths and 2 smallies. Decent for the conditions, witch really made for some miserabale fishing.

Fished Sat. and Sun. at the Potholes Res. and Warden Lake. Warden is full of biting
fish from 7in. planters to the average 12 to
14 in. planters. Also, some nice 17 in. browns and rainbows if you can get you lure
down deep enough with out the little ones hitting it first. You can limit out in about an hour or two. Potholes Res. is dead right now. The wind this weekend was so bad that
you spent most of your time wrestling with your boat. Bass are spawning right now and the walleye were no where to be found. Only caught a few of the planter trout and a few perch. Saw one 5-6lb.trout someone caught off the rocks still fishing.null
