I am planning on going way to early for some local trout in a attempt to beat the launch line. No fly rod for the opener except the one built up as a spinning rod. Looking to do a little trolling and some still fishing if the trolling is to crowded. Always a circus on a crowded small lake.

My tactic is going to be to stay home. My favorite lake will be packed and the launch isn't that great so I think I'll take some time off during next week when it isn't so busy.

Leave the boat at home and bank fish the sun lakes. Blue lake first, then sun lake, then go looking if the fish are small. Bait and spoons.

I love the trout opener Marty. Never miss it! And my tactic is always the same - I go springer fishing in sparser crowds that day. [ 04-29-2001: Message edited by: ReelTruth ]

Yeah, I too took the approach to just stay home and tie up flies. I lost that loving feeling for opening day well over 20 years ago and haven't really done it since. I almost did what RT did, but just didn't feel like loading the kids up in the boat. Haven't had my new top made for my sled so didn't want damp cold kids. I don't want them to hate fishing. Well, my fly box is filling back up now. That's a bonus.
