Opening day for Lakes new
      #32288 - 04/23/01 06:24 AM

With opening day for lake trout almost here, I am looking for new methods for catching the planters. I normally use flatfish and powerbait. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

one of my favorites is the old wedding ring usually tipped with a piece of worm or power bait you can troll it or cast it works pretty well, why wait for opening day was out last friday on lk washington some nice 17" rainbows

That doesn't leave the door wide open. Tons and tons of very effective ways to catch them buggers. spoons, spinners, bait (lots of types) Free falling and bottom up rig or the bobber setup. Flies are fun too if you can find the right pattern. Flatfish are fun for the shear crushing bites. Cluster eggs are very effective, but with bait you must keep everything you catch (15 minutes time to go home). Tiny Dick nite spoons trolled fast or cast. Castmasters cast or jigged. Trout are just a kick in the pants for non stop action.
