Well I didn't get the chance to use the hooks personally, but my brother did some testing for me on the trout. In head to head hook comparison the circle hooks failed miserably. The Trout would be caught on the normal hook and bait would be gone on the circle hook. The bait used was cluster eggs for this first test using a free falling bait. Hook sets aren't used in this method just a pull tight style. Results may vary with power bait or a marshmallowed shrimp. Fishing was red hot too..4 limits in a hour. Tight Lines

Too bad that the circle hooks didn't pan out so well. It would be nice to bait fish for trout and not have to worry about every single one of the little buggers being hooked in the throat. I guess the thoery behind the circle hook is that they allow the fish to swallow the bait and then the point sticks in the corner of the mouth when the fish turns and swims away with it. In theory they should work great for any fish that swallows the bait, but I guess that's where field testing comes into play.

I am going to personally try some more testing. Hopefully I can figure out the problem with the results. Was surprised it was so poor.

I should also add the circle hooks I was able to get in the small size are different than what my brother has used in Alaska long lining. Maybe the the design of the hook. This was stock no 208407 Gammies.

Marty, send me 2 or 3 and I will give them a try. They might work a little better when the fish are more spread out. You know how those sutherland fish attack eggs, 20 or 30 at a time. They grab it, spit it out, then another one will grab it and so on. More like piranha.
