Ruger pistols rock. I have a bull barrel Mark 1. The newer Mark 2's are good, and a friend had their 45/.22, stainless with a bull barrel. Buckmark is also a very good pistol. Any if these will serve you well. the bull barrel gives you a similar weight of a full caliber pistol.

I really like the Ruger Single Six. Yep it's a 6 shooter not an auto, but it comes with both 22LR and 22 Mag cylinders. They are bulletproof, fun to shoot, and a great "learner gun".

If I was gettin' a .22 auto, it'd be the Ruger with a bull barrel.
Like Mojo said the Super Single Six is an awesome revolver. I've had mine for close to 40 years now!!!
Can't begin to tell you how many miles it's been packed, or how many grouse and rabbits it's fixed.

I bought a Ruger Mk2 for $75, great shooter...pretty loud for a .22, wasn't a bull barrel though.

I like my Browning Buckmark, and I've never heard anything bad about the Rugers, except they can be a little tricky to dissasemble to clean.
Another one to look at is the Walther P22. you can get either the 3.5" barrel or the 5" They are known for being reliable and pretty accurate. I like the fact that they can be slipped into a pocket when you're out hunting/fishing. If I didn't already have 3 22 pistols I'd look at getting one of these.
The Beretta Neos is another pistol worthy of a look. Every time I see it it reminds me of something from a Buck Rodgers movie, but they are comfortable in the hand and shoot well.
The S&W 41 is the best of the bunch though. It's a hand built target gun. If you miss with one of these you can't blame it on the gun. They sell in the $800 range though so it may be more than you're looking for.

Yeah, last year I shot a Walther P22. Damn accurate, and a nice gun! If I wasn't "slipped" a mag full of Russian made .22 LR midway through shooting it, I'd probably own one. (Boy, the Russkis don't know much about ammo! It may be cheap, but don't get any!)

One more thing. Man, I got a SERIOUS case of sticker shock. Pricey little bugger. I felt like I should have gotten a little more "bang" for my buck, no pun intended.
I also want to thank your input from seperating me from my hard earned $$$
It obviously is a gun to be taken care of and be passed on down.

MM- I seriously looked at the P22. I did like the size and the price. It's probly the gun I should have bought, but that dang stainless is hard to beat. Gotta like the Bling Bling
Any hollow point will work fine. The .22 is underrated as a personal defense round. They are NASTY and do a lot of damage bouncing around inside the body. I suppose it the lack of stopping power. That's what a .45 is for

W4F - Yeah I know it's S/S, but with the fine rosewood handles and it's gleaming texture, I don't want to hurt it. The poor thing

Dog - I was wondering about speed loaders. Thanks for the tip!!!!!!!! :greemthumb:

The Mark III is supposed to be a tackdriver. Well, in the hands of someone that can shoot

The .22 LR is looked down on by the defensive shooting crowd. But I've got to say. Get her familiar with the gun, and teach her to use it well. So that operation and use are "second nature" to her. Then, get her some hollow points, and have her shoot a lot so she is comfortable with it, and it's almost instinctive.

Like the GOOD defensive guys say, "Use what you are comfortable with and can handle well, and don't WORRY about it!"

Anyone shot with a few .22LR Hollow Points is going to have a VERY BAD day, and won't float too good because he leaks too much!

You should see the big a$$ pad lock they sent with the gun. I didn't take it out of the package to read the instructions, but seems a little overkill.
It does come with an internal safety that uses a key, so that when locked, you can't fire it.
