While fishing the Queets yesterday FJ, his bro Mike and I had the privledge to see one the the largest mass migrations of birds I've ever seen.



There was 4 large flocks of Sandhill Cranes, each consisting of at least 120 birds, that flew over us within about 30 minutes of each other. The calls they were making would fill the valley with noise. It really was quite cool, even if I was the only one in the boat that thought so



I can remember learning about Sandhills in elementary school as they were on the brink of extinction, looks like they are making a good comeback.

Neat experience, and great pics. I might be wrong, but I believe that it was the Whooping Crane, and not the Sandhill, that was threatened with extinction years ago. Or, perhaps it was the Whoopers' plight that got the most attention. Regardless, they're quite a spectacle.
