Its full blown puppy fever here at the house!!! Abby and Avery came home with us today from my moms neighbor. Both dogs were born March 1 and I don't think they have been to the vet yet. Still have dew claws on both pups.
I can use some advice on the todos and not to dos on these precious lab pups. (golden and black) Will be making a dog run for them shortly from some chainlink fencing.
Talk about cute!!! I will see if they will sit long enough for some photos to share with everybody.

Unless you want to share your bed with a 100lb dog in a couple years no sleeping in the bed with you.
Crate Train...get used to the smell of poop & pee
Chew Toys my lab pup has not destroyed one yet...
Deworm them ever couple weeks nothing worse than putting in nutrition just to feed parasites
Buy books and find as much stuff to read as you can use what suites you and leave out the rest
Last but not least get them lots of love & attention!

PS: I've said it before and I'll say it again. Utilize Hog's CRAP training method and you can go wrong. Back in the day when I used to field trial my shorthairs in NSTRA, an old guy showed me his method and I never looked back.
Depending it you want a hunting dog, or just a pet, in my opinion a dog MUST obey. No questions asked.
I can't tell you how many times I've been in the field hearing owners yelling, cursing and blowing their damn whistles at their dogs. Some times a dog just has a bad day or gets over excited. But generally it boils down to lack of training. You can't blame the dog for your lack of time spent training him or her.
C = Consistant. Be consistant
R = Repetition. Don't be afraid to go back to the basics (Sit, stay, etc) even after they've mastered it.
A = association. Remember they have to be able to associate what you want them to do.
P = Praise. Praise them when they have done well. Go overboard. They love it, and it does your heart good too 
One more note. Keep the training short when they are young. Pups have a very short attention span, much like a child. Keep it fun. Dogs only want to please their master. That and have fun !!!!! They will test your patience.

Marty, Pez and I are in the same boat, ours were born last Saturday. Looking forward to puppy fun. Good thin Pez's wife used to train pups professionally.
I agree about crate training. I can fully potty train a female in 3 days (done it twice) and a mal in a few days more. Seems they (like all us males) just like to pee wherever they want.
I feel kindness and consistency, as well as 15 minute training sessions - and keep them fun.

Great advice from everyone, labs are capable of retaining info on the 49th day, give or take a day on some experts. At that point they are old enough to start learning and unfortunately ready to get bad habbits. You may see one of the dogs becoming submissive and the other dominant, if that starts I would kennel them up in different cages at night, not a bad idea anyway. That is one of the biggest reasons to get a pup out of the little at or before the 7th week, they start picking up social habbits. If a problem starts, i.e. chewing, getting out of the yard, whining, barking, whatever---nip it in the bud as fast as you can. Labs are notorious for NOT growing out of their bad habbits. If they start getting out of the yard, they won't quit till they get run over. They are great companions, mine goes to work with me every day I am in town, today she is at home, probably contemplating suicide because I left her.

Beat-it - Latin for get moving, away.
Reconnoiter - To make a preliminary inspection of...
Other than that, can't much disagree with the above mentioned.

Good looking pups Marty.
I suggest everything you want to keep be taken up off the floor, SOON!
Also, consider any areas where electrical cords are easily accessible to be particularly intersting to the pups. Maybe a roadblock or two will prevent that.
Crate training is a MUST.

I'll tell you Marty, They are very cute when they are young but they do get bigger and and the first 18 months are critical. Like everybody else said training is very important. Having a pair when they are young will help them keep each other entertained but like humans you will see there personalities come out. I was told if you want a comedian, get a golden retriever. If you want an accountant get a lab. After owning both I'd say this is very true. Most labs have a drive like no other. Their ability to focus on a current task at hand when trained is outstanding. They are easily trained but it does take a few minutes a day minimum.
Also and I want to add they always need attention from the day you get them to the day you put them down. I have some neighbors that treat them like cattle once the puppy stage wears off. Pisses me off to no end. All of them run up to my truck when I pull up to the house just for some human affection. The dogs are good... It's just that owners suck.
I crate trained Trouble from the start it's about the best advice I've ever gotten and it was from this board. She loves it.
Congrats to you and your family 
P.S. Get a couple spray bottles of Resolve Triple Action and a bulk roll of paper towels. Watch the pups when they are out of there pin. When they start sniffing in circles they need to go. Even if you catch them in the act grab them and take them outside. It doesn't take them long to figure out the difference between grass and carpet. Never get mad at them for doing it.

Make sure when you are training them, do it seperately and keep the distractions to a minimum so they can focus on what you are teaching them.
Also, some dogs most often males (go figure) are a little more hard headed and need additional correction.
With my old female, all I would have to do was change my voice and she knew she was in trouble. My male on the other hand was more hard headed and would require the occasional ear pinch. Dogs ears are sensative and the ear pinch works alot better than putting a beating or laying the boot to him. You NEVER want them to cower or fail to come when your are yelling at them for fear of getting a whoopin.

A low basket or box, and fill it full of toys. Anytime you catch them chewing on something they aren't supposed to have, take them to the toy box.
Dogs can NEVER have enough toys. I prefer both indestructable and ones meant for short term that they can destroy. Labs have the urge to tear and shred. I say, let them, as long as it's THEIR toy. The dollar store is the place to get those.
In 30 years, we've never had a dog tear anything up in the house and they've all been house pets. OK, I've spent hundreds and hundreds on toys, but hey...

I really haven't worked with Trouble like I wanted to but after 2 years she has come around. I had her spade a few months ago and it didn't calm her down much but she filled out for sure. Now she's 78 pounds of spastic dog but I will say she minds quite well. I'll give all the credit for this to the shock collar. Now I bet I haven't zapped her more then 5 times and yes I held it in my hand on high to see what it puts out. It does get your attention but it also has a page feature (vibrate). It's the only thing I have had to use in the last year. When I turn the collar on and she sees it she sits down in front of me and lets me put it on her. She knows it's go time. They make a dual collar with a single controller so you can have control over both dogs. If your going to walk your dogs off a leash it's a must have IMO.

A good training tool when teaching them to come is to have them drag around a check cord which is nothing mor than a length of rope with a snap swivel. Start by having them sit/stay, when you give the command to come make sure you have the check cord in hand and if they run off, just sit there, you are still in control. It's all about control.
Like SF mentioned, shock collars are a good tool. I caution on this one, because it get's abused too easily. You get pissed and they get lit up. There is a training method that teaches them to turn the shock off as opposed to lighting them up when they aren't listening. I'll see if I can dig it out.
My collars had a tone, which I used as a warning. They learn quick what follows the tone if they fail to obey the commands. Others use the tone for other purposes to fit their training.
Another word of caution when using collars. Dogs can become "Collar wise" meaning they know they can't get zapped if there's no collar on. Most collars come with a dummy collar to prevent this.
