Alaska Board of Fisheries had a teleconference meeting new
      #330754 - 04/28/08 02:40 PM Attachment (0 downloads)

Alaska Board of Fisheries had a teleconference meeting this morning. We listened to the teleconference at the ADF&G here in Ketchikan. They voted to approve an Emergency Regulation for this season which makes some changes to the ADF&G News Release on Southeast AK King Salmon Sport Fishing Regulations for 2008. The changes that will apparently go into effect May 1 are: the 4 line restriction on charter vessels has been changed to 6 lines for all fish; for nonresident anglers, retention of king salmon less than 48 inches in length is prohibited starting July 15, not August 1; residents can retain one king per day 28 inches or longer, this has been extended through September 30. The nonresident harvest limits throughout the season remain the same. I heard that there will possibly be a news release regarding this by May 1. This is my perspective of what I heard, the actual wording when it comes out may be different.

Damn, just when I thought it couldn't get any worse! a combination of not being able to keep kings and a 1 halibut limit, the carnage on big butts is going to be huge.

Just a thought, why not have a 2 king annual limit thru June instead of 3, then make it a 1 king annual, over 28" the rest of the year, gotta think the math would work out about the same and keep people "somewhat" happy instead of pissed.

The Halibut issue has not been decided as of yet. It is still possible that things may remain the same as last year's regulations. It all depends on what the Secretary of Commerce decides.

Things are looking like the halibut may be reduced to one. But, until the word is released officially I'm hoping for the best.
