Ok guy's need a little help here, I'm pretty new to trolling in the salt but got invited to try for the weekend. The boat only has 2 downriggers, so I'm going to be using a diver or inline weight. I picked up an Old Salty diver and a couple flashers, do you rig the flasher right off the diver or weight or a couple feet back? How long of a leader from flasher to the bait. We'll be trolling plug cut or whole herring.
Any other free tips you would like to share will be appreciated.

personally.......I would see if the owner of the downriggers would mind stacking clips.....Divers are great for shallower presentations but to get down a ways, you need to down rig or just mooch......you can purchase a d-rigger clip with a small halibut clip at the end, put a peice of rubber hose on it so it doesnt kink the rigger cable and put one rig down about 15 feet then add on the other clip.......then lower to desired depth......works awesome

If you use a flasher, make sure it an inline type. Otherwise, you won't get any depth. I'd connect the flasher to the diver/weight. Otherwise, you have to worry about the leader in front of the flasher twisting. Also, I'd invest in a Sampo or equivalent high quality swivel for those connections in front of and behind the inline flasher.
