Boater, what are you trying to say? This is a "SAFE" fishery, created for gillnet harvest with almost no "impact" on listed fish or the mainstem springers. I don't think many people object to this fishery? Do you?

so you dont mind them keeping and selling listed salmon and netting and releasing sturgeon ?, it looks like also that if a gillnet fishery has "almost no impact" then your ok with it ?
also, there is no such thing as impact, it is take.

You'll have to "take" that up with WDFW because I'm using their terminology.

Very few, if any listed salmon in that fishery. I am FOR the public having access to fish they paid to raise, if it's a selective fishery, and this is considered selective because of the location of the target chinook. That's why it's a SAFE fishery. (Select Area Fishery)

Neither do I boater, but the public IS entitled to fish, so isn't it better that they get it from the LEAST harmful fishery?

Neither would I boater but reality is that commercial fishing is not going to go away on the LCR. What is going to happen is that commercial fishing is going to become more selective as to where, when and method of harvest. Course that's just the opinion of a $25 expert who apparently doesn't know chit.

an example would be the mitigation hatchery on the cedar river for sockeye in lake washington, when its open there is a sport and tribal fishery, do you feel the non-fishing public is getting screwed in this deal since there is not a non-tribal commercial fishery to get them the fish they have paid for here is seattle and the surrounding area`s ?

Nope. Some are needed for nutrient enhancement, and who says the public didn't get their share? The tribes provided their share.

Yes, unquestionably, and without a doubt.
Gooose, yer not one of the $25 Experts...your education was bought and paid for long ago...same as mine...the "$25 Experts" are the ones who began their education 12 months ago by sending in a $25 check, and haven't done any more than that to supplement their "Expert Status", besides talk like they are "experts" on something or other...
I'd like to see a determination that the tribal fishery authorized by the "co-managers" (CRTFC and WDFW) would satisfy the WDFW's mandate to provide for a "viable commercial fishery"...I mean, that's exactly what the co-managers are doing...right?

i agree todd, we cant continue to ignore tribal commercial fishing like its not there and not supplying fish to the non-fishing public, we simply don't need 2 commercial fishery's in every body of water in this state.

I'd be willing to split the non-tribal commercial take on the Columbia right down the middle between sporties and the tribe...
The public would still get all the fish it needs, the sporties would spend millions more to get their extra share (they'd spend far more than the non-tribal commercials ever make in their season...far more), and due to true selective fishing by the sporties, we'd send more fish to the gravel and remove more hatchery fish...
Perfect solution, except for the few dudes who make the money on the LCR non-tribal commercial fishery, and their politicians.

The worldwide commercial lobby is willing to spend millions to protect the access to these CR chinook. Not because of the value of the fish involved or the few paltry jobs that would be lost, but to keep sportfishers from progressively succeeding elsewhere.

if we did that we could let the tribes net in front of cedar creek, i would imagine that about 500.000 fish should return there this year

We don't. But "need" hasn't got a damn thing to do with it. We "HAVE" two fisheries on the Columbia because the commercial fishing lobby and tribal treaty rights made it that way.
If you think you can change it all by yourself, be my guest. Maybe you can use your own fishing board to recruit members and charge them $10 to join.
Most of them aren't smart enough to be $25 experts.
