Chromeo mentioned in another post about the barometric pressure drop sending the fish off the bite. Could someone explain this? I've heard mention of this but really have no idea why this occurs.

Watch the weather reports. A high pressure area usually means dryer weather, including the "Blue Bird" skies. Low pressure usually means your going to get wet around here. Storms and stuff. Bouncing from one to the other fairly fast also messes up the fish. Stable conditions will create good fishing. Check out the B.A.S.S. websight (or other good bass sight) for more info.

Ok, let's look at it from a scientific point of view. A barometer measures the weight of the atmosphere per square inch and compares it to the weight of a column of mercury.
In any given object, there is a pressure exerted on the outside, as well as the inside. These forces must be reasonably close or equal or else the external force will crush the inside force, or vice versa. The best example I can come up with is a helium balloon and its' reaction to warm or cold air. The warmer the air, the greater the expansion (causing the balloon to swell and rise higher in the air) and the colder the air, the more contraction (causing the balloon to shrink and fall closer to ground level).
When a high or low pressure system moves into a given area, the same thing happens in the water and it has an impact on fish, much the same way a person flying in a plane experiences pressure change when travelling through various altitudes. The impact is greater on shallow water(less volume) compared to deep water. In turn, fish feel the same changes in barometric pressure and their bladders adjust accordingly, which in turn causes some reaction to the change and may contribute to fish going off the bite.
Typical barometric pressure depends on elevation. As little as 0.02" change will cause a change in the pattern of fish.
I never leave to go fishing without taking a peek at the barometer, hoping it reads about 30.0" for my area. If there is a low pressure front moving in, I usually consider it a waste of time to go, unless I just need the therapy.

I dont care what the Barometer says. I fish when I can no matter what. I dont care if its raising, dropping or steady, you got a better chance at catching fish when your on the water then you do on your coutch. I know that it does effect fish and there behavior, but I feel like its not going to completley stop every fish in the water from biting.
