Deschutes River Springers new
      #331006 - 04/30/08 06:22 AM

Anybody dialed in on Deschutes River Springers? I want to go try and get one but I'm not sure about run timing. Anybody want to share what they know? I figure I could head down to Shearers Falls and join the masses (couldn't be any worse than the Kenai/Russian Rvr confluence in mid June). If there are other locations that provide good opportunities, please let me know. Thanks.

If it were me, I would stop at the bridge west of Biggs, on the frontage road & pitch spinners. If you get there at daylght you should have the place to yourself. Miles of accsess on both sides of the river. Try chartuse & some weight, the river should be rippin. Best of luck

Jake, yes at the mouth. I dont know about better luck, but wouldnt wish the Shears falls crowd on my worst enemey. On the east side of the frontage bridge, there is a slot that most of the fish run through. Cant remember if its the 3rd or 4th pylon, but if you walk on the bridge & look down u will see it. Belive it or not, me & a bud had some fantastic days fishing off the bridge. Its a 2 man affair, u got to have somebody under the bridge to net & or grab them, but a lot of fun. Best of luck & show us the porn!

So off the bridge (and I have driven over that bridge and seen guys fishing there with stringers of steelies)are you plunking a big spinner or kwikfish? Thats the only way I can see fishing it. Hey thanks for the info.

Best advice I could have received would have been to go somewhere else. Flood conditions made it difficult to fish. We plunked at the bridge for hours, then hiked in to find some holes. Completely blown out, maybe 10 inches of visibility. So we drove around and hit some of the little slews for bass, and fished the mouth of the John Day as well until it was time to head home. I would imagine that most of the fish are up river by now anyway. Was nice to get out and fish, get a little sun, but no fish to report.
