Bringing a shotgun from Washington to Alaska?
      #334492 - 05/27/08 09:10 PM

I will be driving from Wa. to Ak. next month. In this day of post 9-11 concerns, is it legal to bring a shotgun across the Canadian Border to Alaska and vise versa. I would much rather bring one of my own scatter guns than buy a POS in Petersburg second hand. The only reason I want to bring a shotgun is the fact that I will be camping in the bush during the entire trip.

NO - not worth the hassle. Just ship it.

Be prepared for a search at each border, each way, or find an FFL holder to ship it to.

Pump, single shot or over/under isn't bad. Just pay a fee at the border, do the registration paperwork and away you go. You can even download the forms and have them filled out beforehand for easier access.

It's just your run of the mill Remington 870 pump, nothing fancy on it. I would prefer to carry it with me as I usually seem to have bad luck using UPS/FedEx and the like. I don't want my shotgun to look like it was ran through a wood chipper after it has been shipped. I will be suprised if I am not secondaried at each border crossing with the amount of gear I'm taking, boat, supplies, ect. Where do you suggest I download the registration forms from?
