Picked up my new 3wt 11'3" 'trout spey' rod (as well as a new Ross Reel/line for same) from Gary Anderson yesterday. Yes, I did say a 'three weight' spey.
This this has to be cast to believed.

That's a "fun" rod! What fish do you plan on using it for, Fred? There are lots of fish that would be fun to catch with that rod.
I know a certain few stretches on West Canada Creek (actually a large river) and Black River where a rod like that would be a Godsend!
Who makes it, and what model??

First a minor correction (typo if you will) the rod's actually 11' 9" long. Rod's designed/built by Anderson Custom Rods in Gold Hill.

Click on the 'trout spey' link and all the info comes up as a PDF file. Rod has 5 sections so it's really quite compact when it's in its case.
Target fish for this puppy will be low water summer runs. Right now I've had the rod out twice (this afternoon) and had to say I was glad I didn't hook anything on same. Waaaaaay to much flow for a rod like to handle a hot fish. That said, Gary told me he's landed fish to just short of 10# on the stick.

The first on was a Beulah 'Elixor' 5/6 with a 27' head. Waaay to short for my taste until I put a 15' poly leader (RIO) on the end. Now we're getting somewhere.
Dug up RIO 5/6 windcutter that I had (zero idea what I first purchased same for; God I do have too many rods) which has a head closer to 45.' The 'grains' from one line to the other is pretty similar, just the one has a 'head' closer to twice the length.
Doubt a full 15' leader will now be appropriate (just too much for a 11' 9" + 46' head)so will start out with something closer to the 9' range. I'm going to 're-load' the rod with the RIO and give it a go and see what's to see.
To back up, the very short head on the Beaulh was very limiting on setting an anchor and required shooting a heck of a lot of line with each cast. The very soft running line also really limited 'mending' until the line was 1/3-1/2 way through the 'drift.'
