Well after picking up a bug flinger with my stimulus check i finally mustered the courage to leave the gear rods at home and head up to a spot i know is holding fish. It was my first time steelheading with a fly rod. I started off with a green butt skunk but i just couldnt keep it down in the faster deep water where the fish were holding. I switched to a barbell purple egg sucking leech and finally started getting a good swing. Well at the end of one drift (while doing the "Lani Waller" twitch) my fly stopped, and i set the hook. Much to my suprise the rod started throbbing and it was on! The fish stayed in the calm water for a while and let me do some work on it. i got it up about 10' from the bank and it decided to make one last run way out into the rapids. Needless to say the hook pulled, but what a rush, I cant wait to do it again! Now I see what all the fuss is about!

I thought you needed to cast like 10k times for a fish?
Great job and keep at em.

I have a loomis 1688/9 -3 collecting dust.. used maybe twice. Rather use a single hander with dries for trout

Not really sure what I want for it since I have the reel and lines for it too. Would trade for a nice electric downrigger.. its worth 700-1000 for the setup.
