Only 4 more months, Marty (bowhunter here  ) Now, if I can only find me some of those radar guided, heat-seeking arrows in a 2117....  ....otherwise, my taxidermist (me) may be having another slow year  . (Two misses on bulls the last two seasons, guys, I'm DUE!)

Greg I use to do alot of bow hunting. My favorite was Elk hunting, loved bugling the big buggers, stalking and just the general experience. Haven't done it for several years now. I didn't even rifle hunt deer last year. Spent my free time chasing salmon in the rivers, which I hadn't done since my younger days.... Couldn't have picked a better year to get back into fall river fishing. I have a couple compound and switched over from the easton aluminum to the beeman hunters and thunderheads on full lenght arrows. I like to shoot fingers so the longer arrow stabilizes better. My main bow is a onieda strike eagle and the back up is a darton. I also did some musket hunting. I have moved away from hunting since the local area has gone down hill. Cougars and hairslick disease has really impacted the local animals.

Marty, over the years I've hunted with everything from high-powered modern rifles, handguns, muzzleloaders, finally ending up with archery. I enjoy the stalking, ang getting really close to the game. I've been pretty successful, on everything BUT elk. There's something unnerving about watching that beautiful, 800 pound, hormone raging, pissing mad animal coming in to my bugles...I grew up hunting turkeys back east, and its much the same game, making the dominant male animal come to YOU. I enjoy making longbows out of local woods, and make a lot of my own archery gear, arrows, quivers, etc. But when it comes time to hunt serious game, I reach for either a custom built (by my hunting/fishing partner, who used to run his own pro shop)Jennings Speed Star (heavily modified), or my Martin Fury. Both bows are extremely accurate, fast, and it's a coin-toss as to which one I carry. I shoot a release, full length XX75 2117s (I like a heavy arrow), and Thunderheads. I've recently been using a new fiber-optic pin sight by Toxonics that is incredible. The pins gather so much light that you can see the tips before it's light enough to see game. As much as I like to fish, the first 2 weeks of September is permanently reserved for elk/deer!
