13 more days and we can actually fish the salt for Chinooks local, Area 9 & 10. But with only a 7000 fish quota, it may be short. What a treat, I dont have to spend a bunch on gas! No driving to the Columbia, BC, ocean etc. I've made three trips to the Columbia this year and couple times to PA for Halibut. I also have a trip in early August to BC. Tired of feeding the gas pump.
Possession was pretty good last year. SE corner, Hot Spot and a 5.0 or 6.0 Coyote. Looking forward to using my new Scotty electric. I'm going to give CQ a shot next week for Chinooks and Butts but I'm looking forward to Possession on July 16th!.

I'm definitely planning on hitting it on opening day. I can already feel the miserable cold coming on that won't quite be in full force until about 16th or so.

I may have to spend some time out on the water too. Hate to fight opening day crowds, but it might be worth it...

I was over at CQ last week. Fished Tues night, Wed, Thurs and Fri. My buddy lives in Columbia City, Oregon and he gets a lot of Chinooks and Steelhead, so he was more pumped for Halibut. We fished Halibut and Chinooks 50/50. Very windy, or as a buddy I of mine sez "it was very nautical". Got one Butt that we could keep and another one hit Tues night on a hootchie we were trolling for Chinooks and was released (closed Halibut day).
On Nooks we got 5, 4 hatchery and one wild. Nice hatchery fish all the usual 12 to 18 pounds, and I'm sure they were fish headed for Puget Sound. They were good fighters. The usual CQ deal, a little bite early but most of our fish were taken between 8PM and dark. So, they should be be some on Possession on Wednesday.
I'll be out there anyway, North River Seahawk, Blue Trim, prob at the SW corner.

Sounds like a fun trip!
I hope they're biting in the evening here, cuz I only managed to get a half day off work and will be out there in the afternoon.

Reaaaal slooow today. My wife and I started fishing at 6AM until 12:30 all on the west side of Possession, we saw two fish caught. There were three fish checkers at the Everett ramp. The one I talked said she counted 5 fish. Several hundred boats strung out from the Posssession buoy all the way around to Skagit Head. Most of them cleared out by noon.

After working a half day in the morning, we got out and were fishing by 2 after dropping a couple crab pots. My step dad caught one shaker and I had a decent take-down that didn't stick. I didn't see a fish caught the entire time I was out there (Possession). A guy that was taking out as we were putting in said he had two, and that there was a "15 minute period where 40 fish were caught." I guess we just didn't hit that "right place, right time" thing this time. Oh well, four keeper dungies and an awesome day on the water.

I went out yesterday, by myself, my wife didnt feel well. Fished Pilot Pt from 6:30 until high slack at 9. Then trolled PnP area for 3 hours and switched over to Skagit Head and west side of Possession. Quit about 2. Got one half way decent resident Silver 3-4 pounds. Fish checker at Everett said they checked about one fish for 7 guys and that is an improvement. The only fish I saw was the Silver I got. Not much pressure. Prob no more than a dozen boats at each location. Glad I have a 4 stroke at these fuel prices. Wonder if they are just late or not coming. __________________

Got up and went out both mornings this weekend to the West side of the bar. Got one keeper yesterday, and Drunken Thomas brought what was easily a 20# Chinook up the boat. Didn't get to keep 'em though since he was a native.
Sharks have been really aggressive out there this year. Damn things kept chasing our fish up to the boat.

Oops. WDFW made a mistake and closed Area 9 last Sunday and should not have. Area 9 is open now from 8/12 to 8/15.
