What kind of hunting boots do you use and why did you choose them?

Gore Tex. Any good brand. Hunting east if it is dry and I am hiking a long ways I wear High top tennis shoes. They are light and quiet and really comfortable. All this talk about hunting is really starting to get me excited.

I am a self proclaimed gear head. I have tried many differnt types. After spending to much money experimenting I started looking at what the locals were wearing. I concentrated on the ones who consistently get a critter. Sneakers in early archery elk and modern deer if dry. Depending on what and were I am hunting I sometimes use my hiking shoes. I prefer gortex all leather all terain foot armor. Same ones I use for back packing. With gaiters. Vasque are the only hiking shoes I have found that will last me more than a year. Late season or wet and cold I usr rubber boots. The key is they all need to be broke in. If you were rubber boots you should be use walking in them. I currently use plain old barn boots but think a more expensive insulated boot would be better. Note the barn boots I have been using around home and late season elk cost $10.00. Back to my study. Sneakers and rubber boots was the most common foot apparel with the locals on the coast. These people always got there critters. I think the kiss rule apllies. (keep it simple stupid)

When I am putting the miles on my feet I like to keep them dry in a pair of light boots or high top sneakers. Inside I will wear gore-tex sox and they have been wonderful for keeping my feet dry. They say the lighter your boots the easier it is to walk a long ways and I believe it. I haven't hunted a lot of cold climate areas so I could get away with the lighter boots/shoes. So my boots have been a light hi-tek hiker with the nylon side. For general trail hiking I purchased a pair of merrill gore tex boots. These have been good except for the quick laces hook catch the other laces and one has ripped off . Figure a boot repair place could fix them. Stealth is important in a stalking situation and you can't keep the noise down with a heavy lug sole. I like the high tops tennies for the stealth. On a gravelly base a soft large wool sock pulled over the shoe will silence the noise.

Buy the best you can afford. I like Danner products. I have a pair os the new light weight hikers. They are perfect for useing in everything but snow. They are light enough to use in the summer and have just enough insulation to keep the toes warm on those frosty mornings later on.
For extreme weather I like Whites Packs. Rubber bottoms, leather uppers. A ton of insulation and air bod soles. They cant be beat for late season stuff when the weater is nasty.

i like the lite weight gortex boots, but have learned that you better have a good sole on them, where i hunt those danner brand and other brand boots with the little knobs on the bottom are way to loud for walking behind some of the gated off areas, i look for the flatest softest tread design i can find, i only with my huntin partner brother would, i can hear him comin for miles with his "high tech" rock chewers on...

As a professional soldier, I literally live in boots. For early season, I usually wear the Army issue "Jungle Boots"...they're designed to be lightweight, provide good ankle support, and dry quickly if they get wet. Sole provides good traction without too much noise. For late season, I wear a pair of Wolverine Gore-Tex boots. Dry feet are important to me, and these boots provide that, with a more aggressive sole that makes walking in rain slick hillsides easier. A good footbed in any boot is money well spent. Rocky, Dr. Scholl's, are a couple that come to mind, the important thing is shock absorbency and supporting the arch...makes those twenty mile days more comfortable.
