Broadhead sighting new
      #326421 - 03/24/08 07:39 PM

So im trying to get ready for turkey season and started shooting my broadheads today. My field tips are DEAD on, but my broadheads are shooting a little left, low, or high.(no real pattern) I'm shooting 100 grain montec G5's and 5575 gold tip pro hunters on a 60lb draw weight. Any ideas?

Also the tubing on my peep sight keeps snaping right at the peep. this is the second sight it has happened on. i have no idea why this keeps happening. Frusterating day...

Thanks for your input!

First replace the tubing, it goes bad pretty quick if it's old when you buy it.

Second, are you indexing your broadhead, fletching and nock so all your arrows are all lined up the same? It seems a simple thing, but many folks do not do it.

Mojo's dead on, make sure everything lines up the same and make adjustments accordingly. Sometimes 1/4 turn on your broadhead will make all the difference. Make sure to use spacers to keep your broadhead tight when you adjust them. I use the plastic six pack holders and cut them out with a hole punch. As far as the peep sight your probably better without it. They are a nice tool for beginning archers to establish a set anchor point but once your there all they do is limit visibility in low light or extremely bright conditions. Good luck turkey hunting.

Lining up broadheads with fletching makes absolutely no difference at all. If your bow is properly tuned you should be able to get any broadhead to fly with your field points. With the irregular flight you are getting I'd say its a tune issue. A trip to your local pro shop may be in order if you don't feel comfortable or have the tools to make any adjustments yourself.

As for the peep get a different peep that doesn't have the tube and use a quality bow string that doesn't turn and you'll be better off in the long run.

There are a few potential issues.

1. The fletching doesn't have enough control to stabilize the broadheads. Fix is refletch with more offset or longer fletch.

2. Broadheads change the relative stiffness of the arrow since the weight is farther forward. That makes your tuning more critical.

3. If 1 above is the problem, how the broadheads are aligned will make a difference.

4. If the broaheads are not straight, that can also have an affect. By straight, I mean if the ferrule is bent or the insert isn't centered correctly.

Welcome to the world of finding the perfect broadhead..First, change Broadheads..... With all the new heads on the market these days you should be able to find one the flys true just like your field tips (however I have heard that the Montecs fly well)...Go to a Two blade and see what happens..Magnus Stinger

I would be trying Modoc broadheads first. They are a two blade and have alot of consistency with a field tip in flight characteristics due to the length to width ratio. That would be a solution to the weight distribution. Also they are a cut on contact head. So if you touch the animal with them the animal WILL bleed.

switched to 4 blade muzzys and first 4 shots were bullseye with no tuning required.
