She can ask for a summary but implementing it isn't going to happen anytime soon....including the next 4 years and 5.4 months.
She is also asking for several other summaries effecting our fisheries.
The hatchery one is an easy one....there's a 10 year backlog of repairs, maintenance and upgrades that she gets to look at anytime she wants as does the legislature. The list is prioritized. Simply make it part of her budget package with a caveat that it be bid out to private industry. Cost will be around 40% less to accomplish.

Oh smirk. I am so under whelmed by this letter I can hardly contain my lack of enthusiasm.
Pandering to sport fishers now, during her campaign is pathetic. Hope you all don't buy into it. If you MUST vote for her, do so for another reason because she could have taken a more "proactive" fisheries role from day one. A few decent appointments on the commission does NOT a fish advocate make.
Growing the Puget Sound salmon bureacracy will do little for the listed chinook or steelhead. Working with the legislature on funding hatchery fixes and culvert replacement would have done more IMO.

Funny how around election time Chrissy starts talking about sports fishing. I expect she'll be on a Westport charter shortly for a photo op and a chance to talk about how important salmon are to sports fishing. She fooled us once, I guess she'll try it again. Not that I can vote in this election.

i am very proud of our record to protect and restore our salmon and steelhead
i dont see anything she can be proud of and going to full selective fisheries is the result of a system that has failed to protect and restore our wild runs

This from a meeting of commissioners Wahkiakum County:
".. The other concern Martin raised included the difference in the ratio of kept fish between the commercial and recreational fishery. Martin indicated there are observers who look at each commercial catch. This does not happen for anglers. On average, the commercials kept 3.64 fish for every fish released. In contrast, the sports fishermen are averaging 6.24 kept fish for every one released. The ratio in Bonneville was 4.0, and in Idaho it was 4.1. It is possible the number of fish released could be dramatically under reported. Martin suggested that instead of catching the 19,000 fish they caught, the recreational fishery should have only been catching 11,000 to 12,000 fish. The agencies are trying to figure out a scientific reason for why there is a difference of almost double the amount of fish that are kept for every one released on the lower Columbia, in comparison to the commercial fisheries and the fisheries in Bonneville and Idaho.
Again, Martin asked the County Commissioner to work with other counties, ports, and communities who have been affected by this spring Chinook season on the lower Columbia.
Commissioner Cothren asked if Kent Martin has talked to Dino Rossi's office because he seems interested in this issue. Cothren recommended Martin talk to the Rossi campaign because the sports fishing lobbyists have contacted him and are lobbying him. Rossi's staff indicated that Cothren was the only person, to date, to contact them to discuss the importance of the commercial fishery. Rossi's campaign staff also suggested that the Fish and Wildlife Commission should have a member with a commercial fishing background. Martin indicated that if a member could be found who has no conflict of interest, it would be appropriate. Cothren indicated that Rossi was interested in meeting with the commercial fishery. Martin noted he would be gone from June 5 to July 24, but he was willing to talk to Rossi when he returns. See entire meeting minutes here

You sure you want Dino Rossi in charge of appointing new Commissioners?
Gregoire has only appointed those who have either a sportfishing or conservation background, or both...the last two commercial hacks we've had on the Commission were disastrous for us, the fish, and the fishing...we've only just now got rid of them and are getting rid of the effects of them being there...
Fish on...

The previous commission membership rosters were dominated by commercial interests or those amenable to them. Certain powerful Democrat legislators would like to see the commission go back to that domination. I don't see Dino assisting those powers in achieving that goal.

because he seems interested
He's running an election. He can't appear to be NOT interested. Attending a CCA banquet and having dialog with CCA members tells me we have nothing to fear here. NOT because he's for us either...
But because commercial fishing interests would be in opposition to Rossi's real estate developing interests. When it comes to allowable "take" I'm guessing Rossi is able to do the math and figure out which "interest" will get him elected and re-elected. The dynamics of fishing politics is changing, so Rossi will have to decide where to place his bets and I'm pretty sure he's smart enough to figure out commercial fishing interests aren't in his best interests. The nice thing about Rossi... He won't need their money.

NMTA has on their political wish list a softening of the restrictions regarding putting in docks and piers for recreational boats. Makes sense that they would support Rossi. Docks and piers cause harm to salmonid habitat. What a tangled web they weave.

Lovely. Can't trust them as a group and can't trust them as individual members either, apparently.

they also belong to the washington port association, here is a link to what they think of removing the snake river dams,
http://www.washingtonports.org/issues_areas/environment/dam_breaching.asp
its ironic how this works, you have a group like the nsia who wants the dams removed who have alot of members that belong to the nwmta and the nwmta belongs to a group that doesnt want them removed, i bet some people that read this realy hate al gore for inventing the internet

Fossil,
Are you saying that having a photo shoot with a fishing guide makes a person well qualified to be governor? And that the Sonics leaving and the governor are somehow linked? You haven't been drinking have you?

Personally, I don't know Lee Barkie, but if that's who Rossi chose to fish with, maybe I should rethink this thing.
Everybody knows you go with Bob Barthlow or lose Aunty's support!
