      #340422 - 07/18/08 01:41 PM

Hey guys i am new here to these forums and wanna ask a few questions about the skykomish river in monroe. First off where are some good spots for bank fishing/wading to catch steelhead and salmon? And what bait/lures should i use?

Thanks

Try Cracker Bar or Sultan boat ramp. Good starting points if you dont know the river too well.

A good start for sure. The Sky has a ton of access, drive along Ben Howard road and look for all the turn outs and follow the trails.

As far as gear goes, anything! Float and jig, float and bait, drift gear, hardware, you get the point.

Welcome to the board!

Go to 3Rivers in Woodinville and ask. They're always helpful. You won't get any secret spots, aka 'zipperlips'. Those you gotta earn. Lotsa walking. Now that the flows are down <4000 there's a lot of wadable area. During non-fishing times, do some map scouting on GoogleMaps and get yourself oriented using the aerial/satellite photos. (They're a few yrs out of date and don't show each channel, but it's a start)

Unfortunately, we should also warn you to watch where you park, and make sure you don't leave valuables in your vehicle. Certain areas have been a real problem.

Alright to get to the cracker bar hole do you drive on highway 2 to sultan or is it on Ben Howard road? Thanks for the fast replies guys its been about 8 years since i have lived in the NW. We where in Arizona for the last 6 years, so i have limited knowledge of the Duvall,Monroe,Carnation area. Im used to fishing the Roza dam in Yakima/Ellensburg since we where located in Selah.

Head N. on 203 out of Duvall, just before you get to the Sky/Monroe look to the R. for Ben Howard RD, tons of places to wet a line. Easiest way to get to the craker bar is to go HWY 2, when you cross the Sultan river look to the R., that is the cracker bar. At the light in town take a R. and cross the river, the next L. is the parking lot for the cracker bar, follow the trail to the river. I would start fishing about 60-70 yrds above the mouth of the Sultan. I'd go out in the early morning, just My .02
