Was wondering if anyone is using a screen of some sort to protect your intake grate and impellor? I sucked up rocks three times on the cow last week. Me and the river are getting to know each other really well, but was just wondering if there is something out there to keep me fishing rather than searching for rocks. LOL, Thanks, TM

Nope. If you did, it would aerate the water too much or cut the flow or both. It might be worth riding with someone if you are picking up gravels that much on the Cowlitz. One more thing, watch where others go and go the same places if your boat is similar.

Not that I'm aware. When are you sucking the rocks up? Launch or while fishing?

I guess I'm a little spoiled from Texas, most of our lakes have courtesy docks. I am picking up gravel at the launch but it has been twice when I was beaching to pick the guys up. Think I got that remedied, just putt in on the kicker. I have been watching everyone and think I have some of the river down but with all the traffic lately, I have had to venture to areas that I should not have. It only happened twice on Saturday, one time up near BC on the right when I came off plane and the two big boys I had went to the rear of the boat. LOL. I'll just have to be a little more careful I reckon. Thanks for the input.

trim your motor way up when beaching it...might help a bit, changes the angle of the intake to face the rear a bit instead of straight down.
on a similar note, has anyone had their grate pins slide out allowing the grates to flop down? I have had this happen twice in the 10 hours I have on my main. After the first time, I got a new pin, thinking it was the wrong pin, but still happened with the new pin. Both times on the same pin location in the shoe. Thanks.

Get a shove off of shore and run the kicker.

I had a Cobra once upon a time.. great boat. I collected a number of rocks on the cow with it. Not sure what a new impeller cost these days but not cheap. Do not try to power off shore. Use kicker or push off. Other than that lfearn the river and stay away from the shallows. No magic bullet. Dont think stomp grate is available option on AT's

That looks pretty cool, I wonder how labor intensive it really is. I usually have to multiply by ten given my luck. LOL

I wouldn't own an inboard jet(with or without a clean out)unless it had one. Some argue there's a performance issue but you get something stuck in your grate and your performance can be zero and a clean out does nothing.
Keith I'll never forget Bill's face at White Water Marine when I ask him if he could repitch the COW prop. Honestly I've never seen a reverse pitched prop like that one.
It takes a few hours but well worth it. I've installed several.

One other thing, if it's an AT pump, you might want to improve the reverse.

HUGE Difference with the Split Duct Reverse. Night and day difference because you actually have reverse. Never underestimate the white pump

Our sportjet found rocks the first couple years but we learned to avoid them. We've had more issues in the salt with seaweed, which is easily dislodged by simultaneously shutting down the motor and doing a HARD left. Rinses out the guck every time!

We took the guns to alder lake one February to do some shooting. The lake was way up and got some dead grass in the intake of my old Custom Weld Viper inboard. No stomp grate, no rake. Glad I had the kicker on cuz we made the 30 minute run back to the ramp on the 10 horse. I wasn't going swimming in Feb. and i couldn't talk the kids into it either.
If you are sucking rocks, shut her down and push off with your net handle or the spare oar you're gonna go get.
