I sent you an e-mail with the ultimate fly. It is called the lifter because it sinks on the drift and them lifts on the swing.
Purple or pink bunny leeches are easy to tie, and work really well. Remember to weight some of them with lead wraps and dumbell eyes, and leave some light for sub surface swinging.

Grim I visited a buddy from highschool my junior year of highschool that lived in Medford. His dad paid for us to go on a guided flyfishing trip and we slayed the steelies on the agent orange. After that I gave them a test run here in Idaho and let's just say the fish love them here too!

Indeedie do. Earlier this week a young fellow from my Alcoholic Anonymous group asked me to take him 'fly fishing.' No time to tie up what I wanted so hit Will Johnson's fly shop in Ashland to pick up a few ... cost me $61 bucks to get out of there.
Will has several 'variation on the theme' and 'feather bricks.' Anyway, 0 for 2 and the 'newbie' hooked several trout, one was probably a 'short' Summie by the size.
All was well.

Ok after today.. I really dont know... Are you suppose to feel the drift or was I suppose to use an indicator?

IMO, while fly fishing you will keep a tight line to the fly, and feel a bite as a tug while drifting and swinging. It is an aquired feel. If anything changes, swing for the cheap seats. If your tension gets heavier or lighter, set!

Sorry to disagree, Mojo, but I have to disagree to an extent.
SOME days, tight lines work fine, but I have found that OTHER days, letting a fly drift free works better, but keep a good eye on the line where it enters the water. If it pauses, twitches, dips, or moves unnaturally, then set the hook!
For a beginner, a good, visible indicator helps on this second method! In time, you "learn" instinctively when a fish picks up the fly.
Using both techniques, you will have a lot less "poor days"!!

Bob, every day is a good day...
I agree with you that nymphing techniques do work well some times, and having the ability to employ both will increase your hook ups.
I'd had a few beers last night after working 12 hours, my mind wasn't firing on all 8 cylinders...

Sorry I missed your post Mojo; major soccer tournies here in the valley from last Thursday through Monday. 'Run' for 5-6 hours in the heat and home for 'TV dinners' and into bed.
God I'm still beat.
Anyway, pictures I can do, but zero memory on how to post them onto the board. Know it's been covered several times, but if I may ask a favor, can you give me a link?

Thanks Mojo, but I have a better deal. Stopped at the Ashland Fly Shop and talked to Will late this AM. He's very up on posting photo's so I gave him the board name (and thread title) and he'll post photo's of the Agent Orange and its 'off-shoots.'
Bye the bye, a good place to spend your $$; and he's into me well over $100.00 this past 10 days. :>( Just kidding Will, just kidding!!!
