Favorite smoke pole tricks? new

When it comes to black powder hunting the key is to keep that powder dry when you finally get that shot. I have used fingernail polish on the cap to seal it. I have also used a barrell ballon to seal off the front end.

Good tips, Marty. You can also use a piece of electrical tape over the muzzle to keep water out. An "old timer" trick to keeping your cap dry is to seal it with a drip of melted wax from a small candle (or you can use pure beeswax warmed up in your hand). This will also work on flintlocks (my favorite!) if you seal all the way around the pan/frizzen junction.

Another worthwhile tip is to buy an extra ramrod that is a little longer than the standard one, and use it on the range when you go shooting. The extra length makes it easier to load after several shots. Also a good idea to invest in a fiberglass rod for this purpose.
