My Dad says that they are catching a few off the Les Davis pier during the day. I'm getting my gear ready for some night fishing pretty soon.

This time of year, use the small size squid jigs. Various local manufacturers and tackle shops carry them. If you've never seen one, they are brightly colored (usually glow in the dark) painted lead bodies, with an array of sharp barbless pins/hooks.
I like to use a very long and light crappie rod (10 feet). The sensitive tip helps detect the bite. Basically, drop your jig in the water and repeatedly jig your rod up and down about 1 foot. I like a slow drop (using the rod to lower the jig on the drop). The squid usually picks up the jig on the drop, and you will see your rod tip twitch or actually straighten out, when a squid grabs the jig. A lot of times, you will not feel the squid grab the jig, and so it is helpful to watch your rod tip instead.
Summer time, most of the squidlies are small 4-6 inchers. Fall and winter, they get up to 12 inches.

Limit is 10 lbs. Don't forget your shellfish license. I seem to get checked by wardens all the time.
They are very yummy skinned, cut into pieces, dipped in batter, and deep fried.

Good info on squid fishing technique. Our web also has a squidding school section. Any rod and reel will work. Long is good from a pier. I am bias toward Juicy jigs squid jigs. we started making jigs because what was out there did not last or did not work. it is a great activity for everyone. i've had 10 year olds catch their first squid within 10 minutes of trying. if the squid are there and you have the right jigs/rig, you will catch squid!
They are great for a meal or bait. I use the small ones for bait since they are a pain to clean. 12" squid are very common in the Bremerton area. Squid are here year round. Winter is prime season due to the short hours of light.

FYI...I made a delivery today to a local tackel shop. They have been getting many requests for our squid jigs. It appears more people than normal are out squid fishing right now. Some very positive reports from the Bremerton, PO areas.
