I've been looking to break into it for the last few years, this year will be the one!
Anyone want to hook up and show me the ropes, South Sound area preferable!

Been a part time duck hunter for a few years, but since (between Pez and I) we have 3 lab pups, it will again become a semi-full time fall activity. Good luck to you west side flyway guys. Should be fun...

Not South Sound John but check out the maps to Duvall. I belong to a duck club there. I think hiway 18 hits I-90 about 5 miles east of the preston exit from I-90, then North 20 minutes or less to Duvall. Bill

If you have a pair of leaky boots or boot, you are off to a good start.

I explained to my son on our first duck hunt, picture the worst day to be outside is the best day for duckhunting. 34 degrees, a driving rain, you lost one glove or left them in the truck, hands are numb and you have at least one boot full of water, after you've been on a forced march with a full bag of dekes on your back and you have about 10# of mud caked to each boot. Now THATS a good day!!! He looked like I was crazy.
Funny, when the ducks make a swing over the dekes into the wind, then it's all worth it.

Good luck John, you'll love it!!!!!!!

Chehalis River valley after the first flood fills the low spots in the farm fields and old oxbows is a good area to learn and find access. Floating the Chehalis and Cowlitz should be excellent for cast and blasts. Wish I had the time to get back in to duck hunting.

As long as we don't have a repeat of last year Silver Wings should be ready and your welcome any time.

I don't know if I will have time to hook up with you on this, because we are insanely busy this fall. I hunt the Chehalis valley/Grays Harbor area from the sand dunes to Oakville. I only have access to a little private property, and none of it is managed for ducks, and they aren't that good. So, my hunting is all freelance througout the valley.

If you don't have a boat, then you get really limited as to where you can shoot. If you have one I can give you some more tips about the area. I don't have any great insight over things, I just live here. I really don't expect to get limits on my hunts around here, we usually stop by 10:30 most days (trying to keep our spots productive) and never hunting the same place 2 days in a row. The public ground flat-out cannot hold the birds that the private stuff does. Our goal is to have nice, laid-back morning shoots where we are happy to get a single mixed limit for the boat
