A lot of people on this site will probably ask "Why did you go hunting when the rivers are in?". Well I really love to hunt ducks! I got to shoot a limit of green heads this morning! All Mallard Drakes. My buddy was giving me a bad time for not even shooting at hens but I still got my 7 birds! We hunted for about 2 hours and saw nothing but Mallards. I was kinda surprised because we normally have lots of Widgeon hanging around. It was a great day. Maybe I will fish tomorrow.
Yep, things have really picked up in this neck of the woods.Limits are the rule and we have also bagged 15 honkers are last 3 duck hunting trips. I havent had geese come into water this good ever. I havn't even bothered to hunt the fields latly. Well time to go hook up the boat and head to the pond.
Wow you were right Plugger. We had to make a run to Warden this weekend and had the opportunity to shoot some ducks. Didn't get to hunt much but saw way more birds than on my last trip.
Dux, the last two weekends we were on a pond that had a corn field behind it that was getting swanmed by birds. absolutly awsume hunting. There were birds coming and going all day long. The hunting actually got better as the day went on. People would start leaving about 10 or so and the good shouting was from 11 to 2. With 4 of use hunting on sat we had 2 birds at 10 am, not that there wasn't more chances, ther were just to comosion with all the people. At 2 we were done with 28 mallards and 2 honkers. Same thing sun but with no geese.
We have been getting some great hunting over here in some local ponds and farm fields. It sounds like you have a lot of competition over there. Luckily I get to hunt private land here. Makes for shorter days.
Yea there are some real winers out there. There were geese flying around that you couldn't bring down with flack and people were cutting loose on them. This is the first year in many that I can only hunt weekends and holidays. I sure miss weekday hunting. I might go back to my walk in ponds next weekend now that things have thawed out, provided there isn't a cold snap.
