Stories like this are why archers should carry a pistol, IMO, glad the guy survived. Way to go Dad!

In Idaho, if you are hunting with a bow in an archery only season, you are not allowed to even carry a gun.

In BC you cannot carry a sidearm. In fact, you might just have to defend yourself with a stick BC Man kills bear with a stick

Hmmmm, Isn't BC where they filmed the remake of Walking Tall?

Actually, in Idaho you have the right to keep and bear arms always, even during an archery only hunt. There just better not be any bullet holes in your kill when you get checked.

That was alwasy my impression of the rules. You could carry as long as it wasn't used for a method of harvest. But, I think that even if you were technically not allowed to carry while hunting, most wardens would not care too much. Especially after the points of views that I have heard coming from them regarding the wolves. I did see one this season that I would be concerned about running into if one of these instances arose. Then again, I hve never carried while hunting either.

Actually I looked and Len is right, the law has been changed. It used to state you could not have a firearm in the field during archery only season. No longer...

I always just carry a pistol during archery season because its usually bear season at the same time so you wouldnt be able to get in trouble.

Those pistol laws are bullsh*t as far as I'm concerned. I'm not an archer, but if I were I'd have my .45 with me at all times.
