Yep! Also, in addition to the NORMAL colors, tie up some in dark green estaz! Certain days, steelies (and lake run browns, chinooks, too) prefer that color.

I use weighted egg pattens (silver lead eyes) off a dry line/15' leader/spey rod all the time. One of the best set ups if fall kings are staging/spawning. Summer runs will collect below the Redd's looking for a 'free meal.'

Egg patterns are money on any river I have ever fished. Never did learn how to tie a glow bug so that it comes out nice and perfect like the ones you buy at the shop, but even an imperfectly tied GB will get eaten. One method I have resorted to is using plastic beads. Heat the shank of the hook with a lighter then press the bead to the top of the shank, thus melting it on to the shank. I usually finish it off with a lilttle head cement.

Yeah, glue eggs have worked for me as well. If I dont get them nice and round, I just let them dry, then grab some plyers and hold a lighter under the glue blob while you rotate it until it becomes nice and round. COntinue rotating after heat is removed so that it sets up. Good trailer/tandom rig fly as they dont seem to get down fast enough, or sometimes they just plain float.

I like using glue eggs with a tungsten bead inside.
I also use barbells with chanelle wrapped in figure-8 around it and glue after every wrap.
I also buy yarn buffy balls from the craft store, wrap the hook with thread, slide them up the hook over a dot of superglue. They sell them in many sizes and colors. They are an INSTANT glow bug and perfectly round.
I also make glow bugs. The key is to keep fluffing the glow bug and use VERY short sharp pointy scissors.
I will also just wrap chanelle around the hook while adding little dots of super glue on each wrap, slowly shaping an egg.

These are a few of my patterns if you wanted to see some different ways to create egg flies. I really like the tungsten heads with chanelle wrapped to shape the eggs and a small bit of white yarn to resemble skein.
My other favorite are those large barbells with chanelle or crystal flash chanelle wrapped around them and eyes glued on. They are on #1 hooks if I remember correctly. They are KILLER!
