Fishing off Piers new

I was thinking about fishing off of the Port Angeles Pier. What techniques should I use? I got a Dungeness Stinger today that I was going to try jigging with. Will this work or are there better ways? I don't really care what kind of fish I catch, I just want to catch something

Salmon fishing is closed in PA. But on a side note...Pepper those work great. We use to fish off the coast guard base using a cast and jerk technique. The salmon would grab it on the fall. Not really sure how the pier would be for the technique..never tried. I know it has worked in the inner harbor at the port dock and the Diashowa off the docks. Just a matter of getting fish feeding in close to the pier. We have also caught kings off the beach on the spit casting the darts. In deeper water you can use the 2 oz size but in the shallower water a smaller jig is easier to work and doesn't sink as fast. Buzz Bombs,Phish jigs, and crocodile spoons are also good beach lures.

Marty,

Do you know if you can catch greenling or lingcod on those Dungeness Stingers? I might just go throw it out and see what bites. Freshwater Bay I hear is pretty good for lingcod and greenling so I might try there some time. Also, what about catching flatfish on them jigging off the bottom on the pier? Thanks for your reply, it was helpful.

They work great for all those species. There are some good spots from the beach in the Freshwater bay area on a low tide. Just be careful you don't get caught by the tide in the wrong area.
