Late October on the Coast new
      #348535 - 09/29/08 06:24 PM

I'll be in Depoe Bay for a coouple days the last weekend in Oct. Not too familiar with the area. Can anyone help me out with what options I may (or may not) have for fishing steelhead/salmon? Thanks.

Hey Jake,

steelhead won't be much, but there should be local small streams with coho (if it rains several days in advance) and there are charters around.

Fall nookies will be around, but you will need a local for better advice and a report on them.

Forget rain; our long range forecast for So. Oregon is 'warm and dry.'

I read a little blurb yesterday that talked about the low numbers on these rivers this year. It talked about how it may be that the fish are just really late this year, like on so many other rivers. Any thoughts on this?

Nice! Well I am heading over Thursday night this week. If anyone has any last minute suggestions, I'd be happy to hear them. Thanks for the great pics, SFC. Gets the blood flowing.

Just got back from Tillamook. A buddy took us to the Trask, as we had never fished anywhere but Idaho. Very few people were fishing, only saw one chinook caught (foul-hooked). All the locals say they need some rain to come in. As we left to go home today, it was raining pretty good. On a drive down to Newport on Tues., we saw a lot of people fishing the Nestucca, one guy was even fighting a large fish on what looked like a mooching setup.
