Thought I'd get a new thread going as the "salmon Opener" was at 2 pages, anyway hit PD this AM we got one about 8lbs, seemed a little slow but some fish are being caught, lots of weeds and debris floating through because of this weeks minus tides, we spent a lot of time getting junk off our gear and downrigger cables.

Sheeeeesh! I stuck between pd and sturgion fishing here on the Chehalis. The tide is mint for a good day on the anchor. And it would be fun landing a fat spotty on the Puget Sound. It would also be fun taking a spin with my wife. GRRRRR...... What to do?

Went to PD this AM, still kinda slow - I was skunked, but there were a few picked up. I'll wait till Monday to try again - Wonder how the Elliot bay opener was today?

The few reports I've heard on elliot bay have been slow. Going out after work to give it a shot.

Prehaps - Wish I could help you with good bottom fish advice, 10 years ago I did catch some copper rockfish and small lingcod immediatley north of the Tacoma Narrows bridge near the east shore in about 60 -90 feet of water, that's where I would try if I was going for them, you can't keep lingcod now, don't know what the regs are for rockfish. Maybe someone else can give you some better info - salmon fishing picked up today I caught 2 and saw several caught. That may be your best bet, but may be tough to keep kids interested unless they're really biting.

Perhaps,
Quality time with the boys. Excelent! If your coming down my way, Westport. And ya want to catch alot of 1-2# rockfish try thr boardwalk if ya dont have a boat and if ya do the breakwall just outside the boatlaunch at the right tide is alot of fun for the kids. Good luck.

I have been mooching with plugcut herring and jigging with a 4 3/4 oz dart off of point defiance. Both have worked good for me.Good luck.

Well, I do have a report - Went out with a buddy Monday and Tuesday AM, Monday my buddy hooked one, appeared to be a nice fish, but it broke off - either bad knot or frayed line and that was it for us for the day, back at the ramp we saw a boat that had 4, they claimed they caught them between 5 - 6AM at 45 feet on flasher squid combo. There were some other guys with a fish here and there, but it was slow overall. Tuesday we got SKUNKED! It was slower than Monday, saw a meatliner catch about a 20 lber on a white plug and saw another fish caught about 10, otherwise seemed slow.

I stayed home today, tomorrow I'm going to hit the mouth of the Puyallup as it opens on 8/1.

We've been out the last couple of days, yesterday we got a 25 lber in front of the baithouse, this AM we got a 22 lber at the mouth of the Puyallup then a 17 lber in front of the ferry terminal, it's been gooood down there for big fish this year. Seems to be quite a few fish at the mouth of the Puy already, I plan to be there again Friday AM bright and early!
