Hi guys. Been talking with my father in law for years now about getting into hunting deer/elk. This year agreed that next year we would do it. So..... for Christmas I unwraped a new Browning Xbolt 30 06. Anyone use this gun?

I've shot a Browning A-Bolt that a buddy has many times. It's a fine shooting rifle, even if it was made in Japan.
I don't have any experience with an X bolt, but congrats on the new rifle!

I have a A-bolt 30-06. Got it a couple years ago. It has killed 2 cow elk and 2 bucks. I really like it and have had no problems with it. LIL

From what I have read, the Xbolt is the new version of the A bolt but more affordable and with a few safety improvements. Going to scope it in the morning. Any tips on sighting in a rifle? This will be my first. Thanks.

Without access to a bore sighter this is what I do. Mount the scope, insure you get the crosshairs level. Take rifle to range. Remove bolt from rifle so you can look through the barrel. Sandbag or rest the rifle so it is stable. Set up a target at 25 yards. Looking through the barrel alighn the entire rifle until the target is visible looking through barrel. Look through scope, adjust crosshairs until they are on target. Again sight through barrel to insure you didn't move anything.
This will get you close enough to hit paper. Then the shooting starts.
Make sure it's hitting dead center at 25 yards then move target out to 100 yards and sight in how you like. Just remember to take your time and not heat up the barrel too much while you are sighting it in.
Good luck, and have fun...

Yeah... for an '06, set sights to shoot 3" high at 100 yards. You won't miss any close shots, as 3" isn't that much, but you will be zeroed at 225 to 250 yards. It works GREAT! I have used this combination for over 50 years, and it is as close to perfection as you can get. And by the way, everything I ever used it on was dropped cleanly.

I'm confident it'll be a killer! Often times I look at the collection of Rifles i've collected over the years, screwing arond with loads, keeping them sited in, etc. I think to myself my life would be a whole lot less complicated if I offloaded this [**whoops**] and just used my '06!
