Got back to chukar hunting after a lenghty layoff and remembered why I liked it... Sooo ... New pup time. This little lady is a german wirehaired pointer. Name is Dot. We are looking forward to some funtimes chasing birds

She wont have the dexterity, however, she could reload shells.

Dot is Dot because she has one big dot on her side. She is doing well and has learned sit and stay. She is working on her retriving skills and does well most of the time. She will stay for up to 5 min even with the kittens cralling all over her. She gets along well with the kittens. I took her out Staurday for her first big outdoors trip. She was a little intimadated it seemed as she spent most of the day following instead of leading. She leads if we are around the house where we have up to 15 acres to roam. We found a rabbit to tumble which she proceeded to maul. Rabbits eat almost as well as chukar. I will try to get a pick of her up. Oh yea she LOVES to get in the water or at least the hottub. She has a very mellow disposition when inside but is ready to chase and run outside.
She got a little balky at getting on the quad one time so I let her chase me on it for about a mile. After that she was more than willing to sit in the front rack basket.
The house training is going a little slow but mostly only has problems if I miss her clues.

when you are playing fetch with a toy or ball after you take it from the pup give it back to her and as time goes on
fetching will be funner for her. Don't over use the wing or you will never be able to take her in the boat. My shorthair would drive me nuts everytime there was a fishing rod in my hands.

That is a good piece of advice. I don't think I would have put that together. Now that you mention it, this elk season I was doing a little fly fishing in the river behind our camp and my buddies dogs were going ape. Couldn't figure out why. But now that you mention it, he also trains his with a wing on a rod. Good tip. thanks

lol, the other part he doesn't admit to is that I already took "spot" for a dog name. It's tons of fun when we have Dot and Spot together. lol.
