Went steely fishin Wed 4 the first time with someone. Awesome!! He caught 2, 1 hatchery, 1 non hatchery. I caught none. Rolled 1 really nice one but couldnt set hook. My problem is I think I learned enough to at least try again. Problem is I dont want to go to spot he took me that would not be cool to do to someone. At least thats the way it is in the world of elk slayin. So I was hopin someone would give me an Idea of the rivers that are hot right now. I dont want spots, just an Idea of Rivers, I will try to read water myself and find holes. Please help Thanks
Steve
P.S. someone told me Sandy Riv good any other ideas?

Where do you live? That would give us a better idea of where to start. There are several Oregon coastal rivers that ought to be kicking out winter runs right now. A couple S.W.Washington rivers as weel, then there is the holy water on the Olympic Peninsula. Yes the Sandy is pretty good this time of year, from what I've read and heard.

I live in the exact center of Oregon. I drive for a living, so anywhere in Oregon will work for me. Dont mind driven 5 or six hours to fish.

I'd look at the coastal rivers. Siletz, Alsea, Wilson (I've always been intrigued by this one), Umpqua and some of the south coastal rivers. If you get a wild hair, the Smith and Klamath in Nor-Cal kick out some nice winters as well.
I really like the looks of the Wilson...

I live in Central Oregon also and the Deschutes is where I fish most of the time - but thats more of a Summer/Fall thing. I've been hearing that the John Day is kicking out lots of steelies right now. About a 2 hour drive from Bend.

J. D. is producing SOME fish. If the water warmed up it would be a little better. I plan on hitting my money spots this week & will report next weekend. I do know of some fish caught in the Kimberly area but the North Fork is still pukeing ice.

Hey Troy, good to hear that you're finally going to get after something other than critters that "Moooooooo" or those you put a saddle on. Good luck, and looking forward to some fish porn with your report.

The south coast rivers are all pretty skinny right now from the lack of rain. it's been over a month since we've had a measurable amount in my area.
