Where to go in Oregon for bass
      #36608 - 05/12/02 11:02 PM

I have been an avid angler all my life, mostly trout, but some salmon, saltwater, with little bass experience. I've been getting really excited about bass fishing since I've been tuning into all these fishing shows on the Outdoor Channel. But I know of no places to go to find bass. Any good places west of Mt. Hood or are all the good places in Eastern Oregon? Thanks for any input.

fishnfool: I like your name. Hey...there is some great bass fishing in Oregon. The best spot in the state of Oregon is the Umpqua River. If you float it, you can easily take over a hundred bass a day. My son and I caught over 400 on a 2 and a half day trip. There are come nice size fish too our biggest was a 6lb.13oz. smallmouth. We floated from Tyee to Elkton. There is a nasty rapid in this stretch. I would not take it unless you are an experienced oarsman. You could float from Elkton down or there are some good bank spots below Elkton. Another great spot if you have a boat is Brownlee in southeast Oregon. We just got back from a crappie trip and we caught a lot of bass in the 1-3 pound range on crappie jigs. You can't go wrong in either of these places......also there is always the John Day River. Good luck, fishrite

Coastal lakes like Tenmile, north of Coos Bay are famous for good bass fishing.
