halibut fishery is heating up after a slow start caused by rough weather. Westport anglers have been venturing up to 40 miles off the coast to find the halibut, but those fishing out of LaPush and Neah Bay are averaging 0.8 fish per trip much closer to shore. The average weight for halibut in all areas is approximately 25 pounds. Anglers are urged to avoid intercepting yelloweye rockfish and release any they catch to help prevent a further decline in the species – and additional fishing restrictions.
