Rod Building
      #368241 - 02/24/09 08:14 PM

I wanted to ask if anyone has used Rainshadow blanks to buld a rod. I'd like ot build my first and they seem to be somewhat affordable blanks. I can't spend a bunch and dont want to yet since this will be my first. Any reccomendations? Thanks.

I recently finished a rainshadow.

It was comparable to a GL3 $$,but with the reel
Had a buddy mill the weight system for some smoked fish
All in all a good rod!!

What do you mean "weight system?" I am still very new to this. I have yet to purchase my motor, etc.

Jake the weight balancing sys is a series of weights(add/subtract) to help balance the rod and help with fatigue from long days on the river. It's similar to Cabelas F/E XML.The jury isnt in on how well it works yet.
I wouldnt hesitate from building a rainshadow for any situation or style of fishing!

Oh, I see - so you can ad weight to the end of the rod in order to balance it out at different levels. Cool idea. Let me know how it works. Rainshadow seems to have good name but I've never fished one. Anyone have an older used one they want to sell?

I do weight some of the rods to counter tip weight. I have a 13' RS that I added 4 oz to the butt. It might make the blank more arm friendly after a long day.
