They were still there when I was in high school Dean. We hiked out to Cape Alava and down to Sand Point during spring break (1993). Those deer were as tame as cattle and many had white spots and patches.
My grandmother killed a fork-horn similar to that along the Cowlitz back in the late 1960's. She called it her "Appaloosa buck" due to the white spots and patches only along its hind quarters.

Definately a cool trophy.
I've seen two deer with the white spotted coats in King County. One was walking towards me on a logging road near North Bend. In a "bucks only" game unit, I couldn't find horns.
The second deer was browsing along the Black Diamond-Ravensdale Road. This doe had a appaloosa pattern of white spots covering only the hind quarters.
Someone said the spotted coat deer were hybrids...a cross between native blacktails and released fallow deer. Not so sure about that explanation.

CedarR that theory is from the 'local reputable souse' school of knowledge. It's a natural occurrence in Blacktails.

Cedar, lookup Deer Hair Slip, more than likely if you see a Deer like that it is just lice infected. That one in the picture doesn't seem to have that problem.
Nice pelt/mount/rug/blanket/shower curtain/poster/table cloth!
