      #368824 - 02/28/09 09:47 AM

Just saw this on the ADF&G site, http://www.sf.adfg.state.ak.us/statewide/eonr/nr.cfm?id=1040 threw us a bone and gave us 1 more ling which must be over 55". Probably more changes to come in the coming months.

If I'm reading this right,
********************************************************
" In years when the AI is less than or equal to 1.1, the annual harvest limits for nonresident anglers will be as follows:
From May 1 through June 30, a nonresident’s annual limit is three king salmon 28 inches or greater in length, and any king salmon 28 inches or greater harvested by the nonresident between January 1 and April 30 will apply toward the three fish annual harvest limit; and,
From July 1 through December 31, a nonresident’s annual limit is one king salmon 28 inches or greater in length, and any king salmon 28 inches or greater harvested by the nonresident between January 1 and June 30 will apply toward the one fish annual harvest limit."
************************************************************

Worst case scenario we will still be able to retain 1 king a year over 28" after 7/1 which is alot better then what we dealt with last year

After a few years of only keeping slot limit fish, there are some dandies around.

There's a pretty scary issue on the possible horizon. Deals with Demersal Shelf Rockfish and shutting down the whole outside, to ALL fishing, if controlled harvest levels aren't maintained.

Closed to "ALL" fishing sport and commercial or just closed to all sportfishing?
This would be a huge financial hit to the state to shut down commercial fishing throughout all S.E. outside waters, I don't see that happening, especially if this is coming from the state level not fed.

All sportfishing, not commercial. The commercial sector has remained within their harvest limits, while the sport/charter has been coming close to going over. Presently, the harvest limit of Demersal Shelf Rockfish is divided 15% to sport/charter and 85% to commercial. At this past Board of Fisheries meetings, there was a proposal for a re-division of rockfish allocation. 25% for sport/ charter and 75% for commercial. This was shot down. From what I've been told, there was discussion about if the present allocations were met, there may be a need to protect this fishery by shutting down fishing on the "outside". That means for all species. This is an issue SEAGO (Southeast Alaska Guides Organization) has voiced as a possible problem.

Attached is a link to SEGO and some of the proposals that were acted on at the above meetings.
