Fraser Valley Report for January 29/2002
      #36933 - 01/29/02 09:28 AM

Fraser Valley report for the week of January 29 /2002

STS Vest winner Keith Brodt of Coquitlam, last chance, to claim your prize. I have lost your phone number/e-mail, please contact us to claim your vest.

Vedder River clean up day
Unfortunately heavy snowfall and whiteout conditions forced us to cancel the Vedder River Cleanup Day. Although the roads were covered in snow, we still had 20 people show up. I would like to thank those who made the effort and ask everyone to participate once we announce a new date for the cleanup. We still have all the great prizes to giveaway and the Vedder does need our help. I did spend a few minutes cleaning up just below Thurston meadows and managed to gather a full garbage bag in no time at all. I will announce the new date in a couple of days.

Lets help clean up the Vedder, please sign up today.
We will be meeting
Date: To Be Announced BETWEEN 9 am and 10 am.
Meeting place: Chilliwack River Rafting
49704 Chilliwack Lake Rd
Chilliwack, B.C.
South end of Tamahi Bridge

Fraser River
No reports this week as we have been in a bit of a deep freeze. Boat launches are covered in ice and snow and most anglers are keeping warm in the comfort of their homes or fishing for Steelhead on the Vedder or Chehalis. We did manage to get out for a few hours early last week in the Hope/Agassiz area. There was fair action for small Cutthroat at some of the creek mouths along Hwy 7. Spinners and flies will both work but at this time of year it’s hard to resist a well-presented piece of bait.

Some of the harder to reach tributaries have been excellent fishing for Rainbow Trout, Cutthroat and Dolly Varden Char. If you’re planning a trip into our area and would like to experience some great trout fishing just ask us about our backcountry-guided tours.

Sturgeon
The Fraser River is back into good shape once again. Believe it or not, we did do a trip on Sunday in blistering winds and snow. 10 fish were landed with the largest approximately 5 feet. A bit too cold for my liking but as we know these cold spells don’t last long so I’m sure we will be back out soon.

Vedder
Water conditions January 29 – Upper River – moderate flow and clear – 24- 36 inches of visibility, Mid to Lower River – good visibility in the morning, coloring up in the afternoon on the warmer days. 12 to 24 inches of visibility

The Vedder is in perfect shape for anglers to take advantage of good steelheading conditions. There is plenty of fish in the river to be caught as many anglers are catching multiple fish on each outing. The river couldn’t be in better shape, Upper River has good numbers of fish being caught, as does the mid and lower river. Persistence and bit of luck always helps so stay with it if your not having much success.

Steelhead Seminar
We have completed our steelhead seminars for this season, I would like to thank all those people who attended and wish them the best of luck.

Last Chance for this season
We have had some interest for another steelhead seminar, we will be taking names over the next week or so. If we have enough angler interest we will set dates for one more seminar.

Chehalis
Anglers are reporting good conditions but dam cold. The river is fishing well for Steelhead and the occasional Cutthroat. The canyon area is treacherous right now so be very careful if you plan on hiking in. Remember to use the buddy system when venturing into the canyon area.

Harrison
The Harrison has been pretty quiet the last week or so. We were planning to go out on Saturday but the winds and snow put a stop to our trip. I will update this report as soon as I have some current information for you.
