Ketchikan supplies new
      #369842 - 03/06/09 07:57 PM

Grizz or anyone else who may have experience in Ketchikan. I've got a few questions relating to my trip to Coffman Cove this summer and my stop in Ketchikan.

I'm flying into Ketchikan at 8:35 AM. I'm taking the ferry to Hollis at 3:30 PM. I won't have a car in Ketch as it'll be waiting for me in Hollis. How difficult is it to get around town to buy groceries for the week, get some shirts at Soho Coho, and pick up a case of green label and some lead? Is there a bus? Are many taxis available? Or will I be fighting the cruise ship crowd? Any help offered would be welcome.

Thanks,
Ryan

Good luck gettoing GReen Label Herring at taht time of year. Unless U buy it now. Water taxi to town is aboutthe cheepest option or walk on the ferry.

Thanks guys, I'll see about arranging for bait this week. Warren, I sent you an email. The layover in Ketchikan is the 11th of July. I'll be in Coffman Cove the 11th to the 18th. Alaska is finally happening for me after waiting my whole life!! I'm so pumped.

Another option is to buy it on P.O.W. You said you'll have a car waiting for you in Hollis. Well in order to drive to Coffman Cove from there, you have to take the highway back to Klawock and there's a big grocery store right there. Also, a couple hundred yards past the grocery store is Blackbear Market. They have limited fishing tackle there. As for getting green label bait, that shouldn't be a problem. I've had 4 different bait companies (not counting that "Fish On" junk) contact me and tell me they have all the greens anyone could want. Granted though, if A&P will guarantee you some bait, you can rest a little easier. Just an idea, so you don't have to pack everything around Ketchikan while you wait for the ferry.
