How did that happen?
      #370094 - 03/09/09 09:22 AM

Well, I went down to Outdoor Emporium, just to try shooting some bows. I've never done it before, and all the advice I keep seeing is to shoot as many as you can, so my intention was to do just that. After shooting about 6 different bows, I couldn't really tell the difference that much, but I could tell that shooting a bow is the chit! And somehow, I ended up taking this guy home:

It's a Matthew's Mission, 28 inch 70lb, and since i couldn't really see or feel much of a difference between the 900 dollar and 400 dollar bows, I went with the 400. I also bought one of the Matthews kits to save a little more money which came with a peep sight, 5 pin Tru Glo sight, an arrow rest, and a quiver. I feel like i'm forgetting something else.

So I also bought a target and shot a bunch this weekend at a friends house (I don't think my apartment manager would be too down with me shooting in the parkinglot ), and needless to say my shoulder and back are a little "tight" today.

Nice setup! What poundage do you have it set at?

Right now it's at 58 (I believe). The guy at Outdoor Emporium set it low for me and said that I wouldn't want it set up much past 60 if I wanted to actually have fun while getting used to shooting it. It sure is fun!

Nice!

I can't wait to shoot the hell out of mine this weekend.

So one thing I noticed I was doing when shooting last weekend was holding my breath while aiming - is this a bad habit that I should conciously try and break now while I still don't really know what I'm doing?

That depends bacota, but if you are planning on hunting, you better learn to breath. The problem is that sometimes you'll have to draw really early and hold the draw until the game is in the shooting lane. To me, the draw is the biggest distinction between gun hunting and bow hunting not considering range. The draw is the big reason most hunters are seen.

Bacota I'm pretty sure I saw you down there getting the bow all set up. I was getting a rest for my Mathews and waited until Andy was done helping you. Congrats on the new bow! I know what you mean by feeling "tight"
